New Norcia Benedictine Community and town

Travelling on the Great Northern Highway in Western Australia around 130kms from Perth you’re suddenly transported to Spain.

In the midst of typical Australian bushland it’s a bit of a shock to suddenly come upon the spanish-style monastic town of New Norcia. Originally settled in 1847 by two Spanish Benedictine Monks, buildings include the Abbey Church, Monastery, boy’s and girls colleges, bakery and museum.

To find out more about New Norcia see Life on Perth which is informative and amusing; or the monks own website
